Sapolsky begins by separating ordinary sadness from major depression. Everyone experiences disappointment, grief, discouragement, and periods of feeling low. Major depression is something far more extensive and disabling.
Anhedonia means losing the ability to experience pleasure. A person may receive wonderful news, encounter something beautiful, or be surrounded by people they love, yet feel little or nothing. Sapolsky describes depression as a condition in which someone can no longer appreciate a sunset.
Psychomotor retardation refers to the slowing of thought, speech, movement, and initiative. Ordinary activities can become enormous projects. Laundry is no longer simply laundry. It requires finding the basket, gathering the clothes, locating detergent, operating the machine, and completing several other steps that the depressed mind may experience as nearly impossible.
This is not laziness. It is not weakness. It is not something corrected by telling a person to cheer up, pray harder, count his blessings, or pull himself together.

Links between labour, production, income, and survival are becoming increasingly unstable; with AI, societies can produce more with less work. | bit.ly/4gcm9HH Philosopher Manuel Delaflor here argues for a new economic framework, one in which we should draw a line between survival and competition.

Important thought provoking piece by @samzsays
"The area around Jantar Mantar had become a fair, a Meme Expo, where thousands of ‘dissentrepreneurs’ performed dissent, consumed dissent, and turned the performance and consumption of dissent into monetisable digital content which, in turn, set in motion an infinite loop of production-consumption thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/…

True phonetic fidelity isn't always an asset since standardization in the written form helps act as a low-pass filter on phonetic changes (across space and time), helping with broader communicability and preserving the canonical relation b/w words like aravind and aurobindo.

True true. I started off with Jiddu and then moved on to others because I needed the definitive guidelines that others gave. For example, Aurobindo has 4 volumes on the process that actually validated what I was experiencing and I needed it at that point.

Vedic Chhanda Rig Veda 1.4.9
तं त्वा॒ वाजे॑षु वा॒जिनं॑ वा॒जया॑मः शतक्रतो । धना॑नामिन्द्र सा॒तये॑ ॥
(“Thus Thee Rich in the riches we enrich again, o Indra, o Thou of hundred activities, for the safe enjoyment of our havings.” Translated by TV Kapali Sastry)
The entire 1.4 Indra Suktam is a literary masterpiece. Notice the play between ghana- of RV 1.4.8 and dhana- of this rik. This is the musical aspect of the Veda where the notes of sound are carried forward or reference backward. Not to mention the recurrence of vaja- three times with nuanced shifts in emphasis also carried from the previous rik where it appears twice
This is shabda alankara playing with vaja- as anuprasa. Also, see the play of va- in tva and ja- sounds in the first two padas. Perhaps we should call it Varna Anuprasa since each varna also has a distinct color in Vedic verse.
The third pada builds on the sense of riches with a paryaaya or synonym dhana brilliantly. We make Indra richer and he protects our riches. One can also see how the seed sounds are turned into musical notes, independent of and yet constituting the meaning of the verse. This musical play is carried on at a microscopic level and a larger scale throughout the Veda
