Can’t understand why Tulsidas ji made many variations in #ramayan from the original Ramayan by #Valmikiji ? Like— Hanuman ji didn’t met bibhshan in his mission to search Maa #Sitaji ! In stead Bibhishan sent his daughter named Kala to meet Sita ji , Ravana didn’t manhandled bibhishan in his court .. can someone please explain ? @djvtwit @Auro_Mere @GoutamGhosal3 @kalisbrood @RaghuveerBelur @LifeDivine108 @iamchamanjmu

Today, the Hindu society has become unrecognisable from what it had been even 50 years ago. This has been achieved by vilifying its core values which had been reinforced by customs, rituals. The bloodiest assault has been against the Hindu family system.

I sympathize with the underlying spirit that drives stuff like this. The Hindu diaspora in America has achieved great material success and naturally feels more established and wants to assert itself culturally and politically, especially in the face of an increasingly hostile academic & media climate.
But these statues represent that assertion in its coarsest form. The magnitude of these things provide easy fodder for triumphalist WhatsApp posts, but all I see is a tragic lack of imagination. It's quite easy to attack the "south asian left" (which I do quite often) as reflecting what KC Bhattacharya called an "imaginary progressiveness merely imitative of the West”, but those attacks are blunted when the alternative is simply "big ass statues of Hanuman in Houston".
Yes, statues like this one will draw tourists, but will they inspire the children of the boomer uncles who fund these things to carry on the tradition themselves? Speaking as someone who is a part of that generation, I'll tell you that the answer is no.
Imagine if the resources directed towards this statue were, OTOH, put towards a parochial school, a publishing house, or perhaps even a media outfit. Deploying resources in this way requires a level of vision that I'm afraid is simply lacking in Hindu society as a whole. We are in the midst of a "vast emotional upsurge" that can be of immense power if channeled properly, but in the absence of those channels, we're just left with big statues, laser shows, and gaudy temples.

I seriously want to learn the brain-washing techniques Ayurveda colleges use in their training curriculum for me to use the same to impose critical thinking, scientific temperament and rationalism in people.

Dawkins’s Law of the Conservation of Difficulty. Pretentious obscurantism in an academic discipline expands to fill the vacuum of its intrinsic simplicity. #PhysicsEnvy #PostmodernMetabollocks

The Darwinian Theory of Gravity. Things that go up have long since disappeared, and we are left with only the things that go down.

Turns out Darwin's theory was about life, which is rather more a matter of levity than gravity. Living organisms don't just "go down"--they grow up. Evolution is not simply a blind engine of selection driven by death. There is death in it, surely; but there is also aim.
